The Inspiring Journey of Kasech

ree

“You Are God’s Messengers of Hope” Kasech Moges, now 25 years old, is a young girl whose life story is marked by extraordinary resilience in the face of overwhelming adversity.

Born into poverty, Kasech’s childhood was shadowed by loss and hardship. She lost her mother at the tender age of six and soon after, her father as well. Left to navigate life’s challenges alone, she faced a world where even the simplest needs—like a daily meal— were never guaranteed. In her youth, she worked in a garment factory, striving to support herself. She was also an active member of her church, serving as a choir singer and deaconess. But severe health challenges forced her to stop working and serving.

Over a few years, Kasech endured a burst appendix, brain tuberculosis, epilepsy, and nerve damage that left her right hand and leg weak and difficult to move. “My body gave up, and I had to stop everything I loved doing,” she shares. “Though I’m challenged with nerve sickness, my dream and wish is to serve God more than ever in the church, to motivate others with full health, and to show my gratitude and worship even with my health problems.” – Kasech Moges Life became a daily struggle. There were many nights she went to bed hungry, sometimes surviving only on sugar water.

“I know what it means to go without food, to feel alone and helpless. But even in those darkest moments, I held on to hope,” she says.

In June 2024, Kasech’s life took a turn for the better when the partnership of Destiny Foundation and Shallom Kelebet Congregation began supporting her with a monthly grant of 4,000 birr—3,000 birr for her daily needs and 1,000 birr for nerve therapy. This support has been a lifeline, giving her the means to meet basic needs and access treatment.

“The help I receive is more than money—it’s a message that I am not forgotten. You are truly God’s messengers, bringing light where there was darkness,” Kasech boldly declares.

Today, Kasech lives in a center for people with disabilities and destitute individuals, a alongside eight other women who share similar challenges. This community, supported by local government initiatives, is home to around 200 individuals, all striving to overcome their circumstances. Kasech expresses her gratitude, stating, “God can’t come physically to support but uses people; you are God's messengers. Let Him bless everyone who supports me and others like me.” Despite her physical limitations, Kasech’s spirit is unbreakable. Her dream is to return to her church, to serve and inspire others through her faith and gratitude. “I want to show the world that even when your body is weak, your spirit can shine bright. I will worship and give thanks with all my heart, no matter my health,” she affirms with unwavering determination.
