Debritu’s Journey:

From Darkness to Dignity At 69, Debritu’s world was shadowed by loss and hardship. Decades ago, she lost her beloved husband-a soldier-during the turbulent Derg regime. Left widowed, disabled, and without income, Debritu faced each day with uncertainty, her spirit weighed down by the daily struggle to simply survive. The pain of not being able to afford even the basics-let alone the special shoes needed for her shorter leg-left her feeling invisible and isolated from her community. But just as despair threatened to consume her, a glimmer of hope appeared.

The Destiny Foundation stepped into her life, offering a monthly donation of 3,000 ETB. For Debritu, this was more than financial support; it was a lifeline, a message that she was seen and valued. Her words echo with gratitude:

"You are seeing what God has seen for destitute people like me. Let God light your eyes wide again."

With this support, Debritu’s life transformed. She now walks with confidence, her customized shoes no longer a distant dream. For the first time in years, she feels equal to those around her, her dignity restored.

Freed from the anxiety of meeting her community obligations, she now proudly contributes to her local Idir association. Inspired by the kindness she received, Debritu donates 200 ETB each month to help others facing similar struggles, turning her gratitude into a ripple of compassion. Debritu’s journey is a testament to resilience and the power of community.

Through the Destiny Foundation, she has not only reclaimed her life but has become a beacon of hope for others. Her story reminds us all: with a little help and a lot of heart, anyone can rise above their circumstances and inspire change in the world around them.
